Emergencies can strike anytime, anywhere and affect anyone. First aid is a humanitarian act that should be accessible to all. With first aid skills, volunteers and communities are empowered to save lives without discrimination.
An automated external defibrillator (AED), a life-saving equipment is now installed at the airports, hotels, subway stations, major tourist attractions and etc. The assisting person only needs to follow the commands given by the AED machine to save the life by giving a shock.
Here are the steps we should know when the time comes
- Check the scene and the person. Make sure the scene is safe.
- Tap the person on the shoulder to ensure that the person needs help.
- Call 1669 for assistance and get an AED (if available)
- Check for breathing. If there is no breathing begin CPR.
- Begin CPR.
- Turn on the AED. Remove the person’s clothes to do the AED.
- Apply the AED electrode pads to the bare chest of the person. Do not touch the person when shock therapy is being delivered.
- Always follow the instructions of the AED.
- Continue with cycles of chest compressions.
- Hand on the person to emergency team when they arrive.
