Treating severe neck pain through cervical spine surgery

Patient Stories

After seven years of neck pain, Mrs. Aye Aye Moe experienced worsening symptoms, including pain and numbness radiating down her left arm and hand. Despite treatment with medication and injections, her symptoms persisted and could no longer be adequately controlled, leading her to seek further evaluation and treatment at Vejthani International Hospital.

She consulted with Dr. Kitidate Boonchai, Spine Surgeon at Vejthani International Hospital, who evaluated her symptoms and recommended an MRI of the cervical spine. The MRI revealed significant nerve compression at the C4–C5 and C5–C6 levels due to disc and bone compression.

The cervical nerve compression was causing persistent neck pain, numbness, and radiating pain in her left arm and hand. Based on her symptoms and imaging findings, surgical treatment was recommended to relieve the pressure on the spinal nerves.

She underwent posterior cervical spine surgery, including decompressive laminotomy and lateral mass screw fixation for spinal stabilization. Following surgery, her nerve-related pain improved significantly. Within approximately one month, she regained normal movement and was able to resume her daily activities independently.
