Advanced-Stage Basal Cell Carcinoma Treated with Proton Radiation Therapy

Patient Stories

Mrs. To Nga, a 60-year-old woman from Vietnam noticed a slowly enlarging mass beneath her right eye, biopsy revealed basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer that can be locally aggressive and threaten both vision and appearance. In search of ultimate treatment result, Mrs. To Nga discovered Vejthani International Hospital.

Although the cancer had not spread to other organs, it had reached a locally advanced stage. Dr. Aissarapong Sirichavaroj, an oncologist at Vejthani International Hospital along with the multidisciplinary team evaluated her case and selected advanced proton therapy, a highly precise radiation treatment designed to control the tumor while protecting delicate structures around the eye. After completing her treatment with radiation therapy, follow-up PET scans showed no remaining cancer cells. Today, she went back home with preserved vision.

This shows the importance of early diagnosis, expert collaboration, and innovation in treating basal cell carcinoma that resulted in not just survival, but quality of life that Mrs. To Nga once had.
