An endoscope is a small, flexible, and illuminated optical tube used to insert into the digestive tract to diagnose the diseases related to stomach, esophagus, and the upper small intestine, such as;
- Chronic stomachache
- Regularly feel nausea and vomit
- Indigestion problem and chronic heartburn
- Swallow difficulty
- Vomiting blood
- Anemia that caused by internal bleeding
Endoscopy procedure steps are as follow;
- The patient needs to avoid food and drinks at least 6 – 8 hours before undergoing the endoscopy.
- The patient needs to stop taking some kind of medicines at least 7 -10 days before undergoing the endoscopy.
- The doctor will explain about the procedure in detail as well as the complications and side-effects that might occur.
- The doctor will consider to spray or inject local anesthetics around the neck, and use a mild sleeping medication.
- The endoscopy will take around 10 minutes.
- After the endoscopy, the patient needs to take some rest at least 30 minutes in order to recover.
- After the endoscopy, the patient might have dizziness effects from sleeping medicine.
