Vejthani offers cervical cancer treatment in Thailand

Most patients who develop cervical cancer respond very well to treatment. Catching the cancer in time and removing it is vital.

If you’ve been diagnosed with cervical cancer or you’re at risk of cancer and need to be tested, make an appointment at the Vejthani Hospital’s Cancer Center. Vejthani Hospital provides some of the best cervical cancer treatments in Thailand.

Cervical cancer is caused by some types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are over 200 varieties of HPV, and most of them are harmless. HPV is a common infection that usually goes away on its own, but around a dozen varieties of HPV are known to cause cancer.

You should always visit a doctor if you have an HPV infection. They can test to ensure you don’t have one of the varieties that can lead to cancer.

Diagnosing Cervical Cancer

There are two effective ways to diagnose cervical cancer. The first is a Pap test or Pap smear or liquid based cytology. In a Pap test, the doctor inserts a speculum into your vagina. The speculum is used to separate the walls of your vagina so the doctor can reach your cervix. Once they’ve reached the cervix, they use a small spatula or brush to collect cells from the cervix. The cells are then sent to a lab to be tested for cancer.

The Pap test is quick and relatively painless. You may feel just a small amount of discomfort when the doctor opens the speculum inside you.

The other way to test for cervical cancer is by undergoing a colposcopy. This is a visual way for a doctor to check the surface of your cervix for the presence of any abnormal cells that might indicate cancer.

Again, the doctor will insert a speculum into your vagina to spread the walls of the vagina until the cervix is exposed. Then they’ll wash the cervix with a vinegar-like solution to make it easier to see any abnormal cells.

They’ll use an instrument called a colposcope and a bright light to look closely at your cervix. The colposcope remains outside of you during the procedure. If they spot an abnormality, they’ll do a biopsy and take a small amount of the tissue to be tested in a lab.

LEEP is an Effective Treatment for Cervical Cancer

Vejthani Hospital’s Cancer Center offers the LEEP procedure, one of the best precancerous lesion treatments in Thailand.

The Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) uses a wire loop heated by an electrical current. The loop is used to burn off the abnormal cells from the surface of the cervix. LEEP is also used to remove polyps and vaginal warts as these may also contain cancer cells.

What Happens During the LEEP Procedure?

During the LEEP procedure, you’ll be asked to lie on your back as if you were having a pelvic exam or colposcopy. The doctor will insert a speculum into your vagina and use it to spread the walls of the vagina until they get a clear view of your cervix through the colposcope. They will go through the same cleaning procedure with a vinegar solution as they would during a colposcopy. The doctor will then use a needle to inject a local anesthetic and numb the cervix.

The LEEP wire will be inserted into the speculum to cut away any abnormal tissue that appears once the cervix has been cleaned. The electric current of the LEEP cuts away the suspected abnormal tissue and seals the blood vessels, so there is very little bleeding during the procedure. After the procedure is finished and the tissue is sent to the lab for analysis, you’ll rest for a little while before being allowed to go home. Vejthani Hospital performs thousands of successful treatments every year.
