  • Frequent urination
  • Sudden urge to urinate
  • Frequent urination at night (nocturia)
  • Difficulty urinating or weak urine flow
  • Dribbling of urine or blood in urine
  • Incomplete bladder emptying

If left untreated — BPH may lead to urinary tract

What is PAE?

PAE (Prostatic Artery Embolization) is a minimally invasive treatment for an enlarged prostate also known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. The procedure is performed by accessing a blood vessel through the wrist or groin, then precisely blocking the arteries that supply blood to the prostate. This reduces blood flow, allowing the prostate to gradually shrink, without the need for open surgery.

Who is suitable for PAE?

  • If patient does not prefer to take medication or have experienced side effects from it
  • If patient is seeking a low-risk treatment that preserves sexual function
  • If patient wishes to avoid surgery

How long is the recovery period?

Studies show that 75–80% of patients treated with PAE experience significant improvement. Urination becomes easier, and frequent urination is reduced effectively. Results typically begin within 1–2 months, with the prostate continuing to shrink over 5–6 months.

Benefits of PAE

No surgery required
One day hospital admission
No incisions, ensuring a smooth recovery
No repeat treatment required within 5 years
No urinary catheter required (if not needed prior to treatment)
Fewer side effects compared to surgery or long-term medication
Minimal impact on sexual function
