Self-observation is the best way to start for those who want to live healthily,  especially in woman who is experiencing abdominal discomfort, flatulence, losing appetite, abdominal bloating or having belly.  These symptoms might be the sign of gynecologic diseases such as uterine fibroids, ovarian tumor or even ‘ovarian cancer’ another deadly silence disease you should never ignore.

Even though, the prevalence of ovarian cancer is less than cervical cancer, but it is the most common cause of death in women. The disease doesn’t show symptom in its early stage which makes it was found in the advanced stage results in more complicated treatment.

Noticed abnormal-like-normal conditions

  • Abdominal bloating or swelling
  • Lost of appetite
  • Unintentional weight loss or weight gain
  • Changes in bowel habits such as frequent urination, constipation and diarrhea
  • Palpated mass in abdomen

These symptoms seem related to gastrointestinal problems so that, most of women overlooked and don’t seeking for gynecological consultation.

Ovarian cancer was found in various range of age; young to menopause, mostly found at age between 40-60.

However, there is no study confirmed the cause of ovarian cancer so we can’t find the proper preventive method.  On the other hand, there are studies about ovarian cancer related risk factors as follow

Risk factors of Ovarian Cancer

  • Family history of ovarian cancer especially mother, sister, or daughter
  • History of breast cancer or colon cancer
  • Early menstruation (before the age of 12) and late menopause (after the age of 55)
  • Never been pregnant or never given birth

Women with these risk factors should have regular medical check-up especially gynecologic cancer screening. However, we cannot say that every women who has risk factors will develop ovarian cancer but, better to pay attention on unfamiliar symptoms and go to see doctor. If you were found with an abdominal mass, so you can get proper treatment on time.
